Integrating Email and SharePoint using

Email is still the collaboration tool of choice for most organizations. As archaic and backwards as that sounds it holds true for many companies. Email traffic is not dropping even as emerging Social Business or Enterprise 2.0 technologies come to the market. Integrating the Email Client with other collaboration tools like SharePoint have been difficult in the past. from MainSoft is seeking to change this.

Go here to see how the solution works:

One of the easiest ways to get your organization started down the path of adopting collaboration is to make it easy for the users to move between environments. Instead of having an email client and a browser to your collaboration platform open at the same time - which forces you to manually move documents from one environment to the other - you can use tools like to seamlessly integrate both. I've been following for a few months now and I've been using the solution extensively to manage communication between the various projects I work on and the documents that get sent to me from the various groups I work with. I'm able to drag and drop attachments from email to a SharePoint document library and keep email correspondence organized by project.

One of the biggest complaints I get from SharePoint users is how difficult it is to get documents into a SharePoint document library. I have customers (end users) that are saving documents to their desktop and uploading them into the SharePoint environment manually. This is very time consuming - one customer said he spends up to 10 hours a week manually uploading email communication and attached documents. He's using Harmonie now and has stated that he's reduced his workload by 80% (8 hours of saved time!). If you multiplied that by the hundreds of employees at my company and calculated how much each employee costs per hour the savings would be in the millions each year.

You can download a free version that integrates with your Outlook Client and allows you to connect to any SharePoint Site you have credentials to. The Harmonie tool integrates as a sidebar application in Outlook so you can simply drag an email or attachment into the SharePoint Site.

You can also use to move multiple documents into SharePoint by opening your Windows Explorer, highlighting the documents you want and dragging them into the SharePoint site.

You can also save SharePoint sites as favorites so you can quickly access them when you need to navigate to the site.

I strongly believe in telling others about solid, useful, and compelling technology solutions that make my life easier.

  1. Thanks Bill, we see as a solution to help organizations evolve into a Social Business. By making it easier to leverage social platforms, we feel people will (over time) move into becoming a more social, more responsive organization.

  2. Mark - I completely agree... I see in the same way. I think the path to Social Business is best served by a top down and bottom up approach. Giving people the ability to become more engaged using the tools they are familiar with is a great way to get the ball rolling.
